Service-Learning and Evaluation: A Brief Review of Resources and Readings. A "Link" Piece: Connecting Theory with Practice.
Hengel, Madeleine S.; Shumer, Robert D.
This document provides some guidance to those who are exploring the connections between service-learning and evaluation. Categories are defined in the document by highlighting the following seven questions: (1) What do I need to know about the important issues involved in evaluating my service-learning program? (2) Do you have a model of evaluation I can look at? (3) Do you have an instrument I can use? (4) If you cannot send me the answer (an instrument or completed design), where can I go for help? (5) Are there studies that "prove" (usually quantitative studies) service-learning is effective? (6) What programs are out there for evaluation? and (7) Who has done evaluation/assessment of service-learning and how can I contact them? Common sources for obtaining the listings appear at the end of the document. (BT)
