Planning Your Professional Growth: Creating an Individualized Professional Development Plan for Early Care and Education.
Vermont Early Childhood Work Group.
Based on the view that the quality of children's early experiences depends largely on the knowledge, experience, and skills of the people who work with them, this guide for early childhood practitioners in Vermont is designed to help them prepare and carry out a personally tailored professional development plan. The guide is presented in four sections. Section 1 provides an overview of the planning process, defines an Individualized Professional Development Plan (IPDP), describes common formats for its development, and discusses the role of mentors in professional development. Section 2 illustrates how 3 early childhood professionals created their 1-year IPDPs and 3-year timelines. Section 3 compiles forms for creating the IPDP. Section 4 presents information on the format for IPDPs from the Vermont Early Childhood Career Lattice, the Vermont Early Childhood Framework, and the Child Development Associate, as well as information on the Standards for Vermont Educators.
