NEXT S.T.E.P.: Student Transition and Educational Planning. [Teacher Manual, Student Workbooks, and Videotape]. Second Edition.
Halpern, Andrew S.; Herr, Cynthia M.; Doren, Bonnie; Wolf, Nancy K.
This curriculum kit contains a teacher manual, five student workbooks, a program guide, informational brochures, and a videotape recording, designed to teach high school students with and without disabilities how to begin planning for their lives after they leave school. NEXT S.T.E.P. (Student Transition and Educational Planning) is intended to help students learn how to take charge of their own transition planning. Lessons are designed to help students become motivated to engage in transition planning, engage in meaningful and useful self-evaluation, identify and select transition goals and activities, monitor the implementation of their transition plans and make adjustments when needed, and take responsibility for conducting their own transition planning meeting. The curriculum contains 16 lessons and most of the materials that a teacher will need to implement the lessons, including lesson plans, blackline masters for overhead transparencies, student workbooks, and all the assessment tools, planning sheets, and other forms that the students will need to produce their transition plans. A program guide contains teacher insights that address basic considerations, student issues and concerns, and making lessons work well. The 3-hour videotape recording presents instructive video vignettes that play a motivational and instructional role within several of the lessons. (CR)
