Crossing the Continuum: Results of Ohio's Annual Education Technology Assessment.

The first section of this paper presents the results of Ohio's 1999-2000 Annual Education Technology Assessment. Topics addressed include: the assessment methodology, progress toward eight SchoolNet goals, and better state and local decisions; overall progress toward building the infrastructure and fostering the growth of new practices; and needed improvements related to connectivity and access, knowledge generation, teacher learning, and technology productivity. The second section of the paper discusses Ohio's new economic landscape. This section covers: (1) workforce development, including emerging economic centers, Ohio's investments in high tech industries, and the state's key long-term strategy; (2) economic advantages of global, digital, knowledge-based schools, including a global perspective and a look at students prepared for the digital world and for knowledge work; and (3) the next steps in the transition to global, digital, knowledge-based schools, including equitable connectivity and access statewide, investment in the knowledge generation, support for teacher learning, and improved technology productivity.
