This multimedia program (a CD-ROM and a teacher's guide) features reading comprehension activities to encourage students to read for meaning. It includes exercises for 100 intermediate level books that are commonly available in classrooms or libraries. The program provides 20 "island destinations" that contain activities that assess comprehension, ask reader response questions, and provide activities where students can practice vocabulary skills. The books and the vocabulary in this program are researched, selected, and approved for grade 4 and 5 curricula. The teacher's guide explains the activities and gives teachers tips on setting up the program, how to change the program options and testing levels, and how to review and grade student work. A list of book titles and vocabulary, as well as additional classroom activities with blackline masters, are included at the end of the teacher's guide. (RS)
