Engaging the Students--Online.

This paper focuses on the experiences and the research of two communication instructors who are currently using Blackboard CourseInfo, an online software program, to enhance learning and communication. The paper states that ,in 1999, Ohio University made Blackboard CourseInfo available to its faculty to enable instructors to have the option of creating and teaching entire courses online or in using online components as supplements to on-site instruction. The paper provides an overview of Blackboard CourseInfo and its use to support active learning, and it presents survey findings from the first year experience of using Blackboard CourseInfo as a course component. The paper concludes with suggestions for engaging students online and enhancing communication between teachers and students. An appendix provides a student handout "CourseInfo Menu." (EF)
