Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Together: The Reflective Classroom.
Ellis, Arthur K.
This book is designed to help teachers raise the academic achievement of their students and improve the social and moral fabric of school life. To accomplish these goals, it explores and develops the relationships among teaching, learning, and assessment, asserting that these elements of school life must be joined seamlessly, and that they cannot be separated. The chapters of the Part 1, "Reflective Practice," are: (1) "Developing a Learning Culture"; (2) "Two Goals of School Life"; (3) "The Reflective Classroom"; (4) "The Nature of Knowledge"; (5) "Ways To Learn"; (6) "Some Useful Teaching/Learning Concepts"; (7) "Why Assess Teaching and Learning"; (8) "Necessary Conditions"; (9) "Improved Social Setting"; (10) "Consciousness"; (11) "Life Skills Needed in the Workplace"; and (12) "Going with the Flow." Part 2, "Reflective Assessment Strategies," describes 22 strategies for reflective teaching, learning, and assessment. An epilogue summarizes the discussions, and a glossary is included. (SLD)
