After School Learning Initiative [Resources].

This document is comprised of two papers providing resources for after-school programs and additional information available from the Harvard Family Research Project (HFRP). The first paper, "Organizations in Out-of-School Time: An Introduction," reviews the national, state, and local organizations active in the field of out-of-school time, grouped by topical area: (1) advocacy; (2) funding and policy at the national, state, and local levels; (3) training and development; and (4) research and evaluation. The second paper, "Federal Funding in Out-of-School Time with Accountability Requirements and Evaluations," details funding for after-school programs and related programming with accountability requirements and evaluations. Both major and minor funding streams are described, with the following information provided for each program: (1) goal; (2) appropriations; (3) sites; and (4) accountability/evaluation information. Information also is provided on the goals of the HFRP After-School Initiative for promoting quality programs and improved outcomes for children and youth, the topics of future "Issues and Opportunities in Out-of-School Time" briefs related to evaluation approaches, the HFRP after-school outcomes evaluation database, and information on the out-of-school time issue of HFRP's quarterly newsletter, "Evaluation Exchange."
