The Role of Educators in Educational Facilities Planning: A Case Study of the Planning Process.
Neylon, Terrance Bernard
This case study explores the role of educators in educational facilities planning and construction and discusses the different agendas and perspectives people bring to the development of educational facility specifications. It describes how cooperation and input among stakeholders resulted in a Massachusetts community college was built in 18 months, under budget, and with less than 1 percent change orders. Chapters provide background information on the college, the educational planning and specifications process, the phases of the design process, school construction issues and management, and user interviews about the outcome. Study conclusions are discussed as are recommendations on the planning process to ensure user involvement and input in the final facility, and improvements to the facilities planning process. Appendices provide copies of study and project documents. (Contains a 140-item bibliography.) (GR)
