Report of the Summit on Girls & Violence.

In December 1997 the Center for Women Policy Studies convened a Summit on Girls and Violence in Washington, D.C. The Summit brought together researchers, advocates, educators, funders, and policymakers to strategize about how to shape further research, bring attention to the issues, and muster the national will to end violence affecting girls and young women. This report summarizes the Center's research and the Summit presentations and discussions, grouped into the following sections: (1) "Introduction"; (2) "Up Close: A Portrait of Girls and Violence in Florida"; (3) "Definitions of Violence"; (4) "Feminist Response to Violent Girls"; (5) "Responding to the Needs of Girls and Teen Women: The Role of Institutions"; (6)"Opportunities and Barriers"; and (7) "Recommendations."
