Ohio's Model Competency-Based Science Program is designed to provide direction for school districts in developing local competency-based science education programs. The model is designed to be used to guide the development of district curriculum. The ultimate purpose of Ohio's Model Competency-Based Science Program is to move Ohio towards the national goal of first in the world in science achievement by the year 2000. In order to achieve this purpose, developers of local science curricula will use the model as the basis of a locally developed/adapted competency-based science program. This document provides an introduction to the model, its philosophy, and goals. It describes developing a pre K-12 school science program with science instructional and performance objectives.
