Sensible Mathematics: A Guide for School Leaders.
This guide provides the tools school leaders and educators need to make the vision of sensible mathematics a reality for all students. Closely aligned with the new National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Principles and Standards, it was written to help communicate why change must occur, what that change looks like, and what must be done to implement it. More specifically, this book features useful strategies that administrators can use to broaden awareness and understanding about mathematics reform, practical suggestions for providing leadership that results in substantive improvement, helpful ideas for identifying and implementing the key instructional components of a high-quality mathematics program, 15 "program delivery standards" to focus planning, and ready-to-use materials to engage teachers and parents in discussion about how and why to make improvements. This book advocates that mathematics classrooms meet continued cries for higher expectations. (Contains 15 references.) (ASK)
