Partners in Teaching Math: School and University Faculty Examine Issues in Mathematics Education.
Roberts, Anne D.; Clemens, Herb; Hunter, Diane; Lubomudrov, Carol; Preston, Lorel; Randell, Carol; Smith, Scott
This booklet describes the Elementary Mathematics through Teacher Partnerships (EMTTP) project in which the faculty at a K-6 elementary school and a few mathematicians and mathematics educators met regularly to talk about mathematics and teaching. This book illustrates how the partnership grew and learning occurred as a result. The difficulties that were encountered, the decisions that were made, and the benefits derived from the efforts to help others who may be involved in similar work are described. It also examines how a conversation about mathematics and teaching grew as mathematicians and elementary school teachers worked together in the elementary classroom. (Contains 34 references.) (ASK)
