Early Childhood: Years of Promise, Parts 1 & 2. Profiles in Education Series. [Videotape].
Noting a Carnegie report pointing out changes in children's lives, including working mothers and poor quality care, this videotape provides educators, librarians, and parents information to help children grow to their fullest potential. The 45-minute video highlights a collaborative early childhood care model in place in Stamford, Connecticut to illustrate several major topics related to quality care. The case study illustrates characteristics of quality, such as the teacher-child relationship, licensing/accreditation, developmentally appropriate practices, special learning needs, cultural awareness, observation and monitoring, and staff development. The video explains how the childcare centers forge partnerships to meet the needs of families who can not afford expensive care--such as the school readiness initiative that allows all 3- and 4-year-olds access, and corporate partnerships--and the "Lifelinks" program that provides shelter and guidance for struggling families and mentoring by company personnel.
