The First Steps Series. [Videotapes].
This videotape series offers emotional support and self-confidence to parents reaching out for knowledge about how young children, grow, develop, and learn. The video "Common Concerns of Parents of Young" (30 minutes) features parents expressing some universal concerns regarding their young children. Child psychologists and pediatricians offer comforting and common sense suggestions about how to stimulate infants simply by talking to them; how to handle the new independence and associated tantrums of 2-year-olds; turning sibling rivalry into sharing; and how to deal with death with young children by keeping explanations simple. The video "Helping Young Children Learn" (25 minutes) explains the role parents should play in fostering learning in children from birth to age 5. In addition, the video features experts discussing the continuing challenge for educators and parents to enable children to learn as fully as possible without pushing too hard or letting them drift into boredom.
