Hardship Funds for Higher Education Institutions, 2000-01 Report.
Higher Education Funding Council for England, Bristol.
This publication sets out the guidance, terms, and conditions issued by the Department for Education and Employment for the Hardship Fund for higher education institutions in England. These hardship funds are made available to undergraduate, graduate, or further education students who face difficulty in meeting their living costs whether because of personal circumstances or unexpected hardship. They are not intended to pay tuition, and they do not substitute for student loans, and are intended only to help students in hardship situations. Some of the conditions of eligibility are outlined. The booklet also contains an updated version of the guidance on the allocation of Mature Student Bursaries. This guide confirms that the Department for Education and Employment has allocated 56.9 million pounds in Hardship Funds to English higher education institutions and describes the funds available to individual institutions. Essential information for the administrators of hardship funds is included, and the monitoring information required from the institution is described. Also included is an explanation of how fund allocations are calculated. Six annexes and an appendix contain additional details about eligibility and allocations. (Contains 16 tables.) (SLD)
