This guide chronicles the ongoing work and writings of the Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago, a policy research center dedicated to bringing sound information, rigorous analyses, innovative ideas, and an independent, multidisciplinary perspective to bear on policies and programs affecting children. This guide, organized by major research area, presents an overview of the research and policy issues involved, describes Chapin Hall research in each area, and lists relevant projects and publications. Chapin Hall's research agenda currently includes the following major areas: (1) children's services, covering problems that threaten children and the services designed to address those problems; (2) primary supports for child and youth development, concerning the community resources that enhance the development and well-being of all children; (3) community building, focusing on development, documentation, and evaluation of community-building initiatives designed to make communities more supportive of children and families; (4) schools' connections with other organizations, examining the range of institutions that foster children's learning and development; (5) international projects, covering Chapin Hall's involvement with children's policy issues, researchers, and research centers in other countries; and (6) special projects and consultations, covering a range of projects, often undertaken in collaboration or consultation with other organizations.
