This teacher guidebook is intended to be a comprehensive resource for second language teachers wishing to use and teach language learning strategies to their students. It is intended to be used by both English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) teachers and teachers of such foreign languages as German, French, and Spanish to American native speakers of English. It is divided into 2 parts. Part 1 contains workshop handouts and forms covering such topics as learning strategy models, ways to integrate strategies seamlessly into classroom instruction, immersion self-efficacy questionnaires, students' and teachers' evaluations of strategies of instruction, learning strategy teaching checklists, examples of poor and good strategy use, ideas for introducing specific strategies, and a student self-evaluation of strategies use. Part 2 is comprised of excerpts from the National Capitol Language Resource Center (NCLRC) Language Resource. This part is subdivided into 3 sections: an overview of learning strategies, a look at specific strategies, and an examination of the basis of research on learning strategies. (KFT)
