101 Innovative Ideas for Creative Kids.
Dodson, Claudia J.
As an alternative to the drill and practice worksheets that typically supplement student learning, this book provides a reference for kindergarten through fifth grade teachers containing ideas for interactive activities to invigorate daily lessons in many areas of the elementary school curriculum, as well as providing ideas for home school teachers and after-school providers. The book begins with a summary of the national education standards in reading and language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. The remainder of the book presents activities organized into eight sections: (1) reading and language arts; (2) journal writing ideas; (3) class books to create; (4) mathematics; (5) science and social studies; (6) seasonal ideas; (7) fun activities for outdoor or active play; and (8) motivational and organizational ideas. Each section contains eight or more activities easily adapted for grades kindergarten through five. Where applicable, activities are linked to national education standards. Directions for each activity also list the materials needed. The final section of the book discusses ways to organize and motivate students. (KB)
