The Vermont Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities was developed in order to better provide Vermont students with essential skills and knowledge and to ensure that they leave school able to contribute positively to society. This 13-minute videotape examines how this framework is applied in early care and education settings. The video discusses the history of the standards' development and outlines how the framework helps to link early care and education programs to public schools, helps to prepare children for successful school entry, and ensures continuity throughout school. Featured on the video are interviews with educational leaders who discuss the application of the framework for preschool curriculum development. The video shows children in play and learning activities in early care and education settings, and describes how the standards and learning opportunities are being applied. Educational consultants suggest ways of documenting young children's learning. The video concludes by noting the importance of the framework to all Vermont citizens. (KB)
