A Journey of Inquiry: A Researcher's Personal Narrative.
Pacino, Maria A.
A researcher who is also a college teacher reflects on the personal meaning of research and the relationship between researcher and subject. As teacher-researchers embark on the process of discovery, they engage in relationships with informants. Developing these relationships requires implicit moral and ethical responsibility, mutual respect, and reciprocity. Relationships become the central focus of interpretative research where all participants collaborate as researchers and learners. The ethics of building relationships with informants requires researchers to disclose their intentions fully and to regard informants as co-learners. The researcher's experience in a study involving Latinas illustrates the complexities of the researcher-informant relationship and the importance of cultural sensitivity in the research process.
