Student Enrollments and Completions in the Illinois Community College System, Fiscal Year 1999.
Illinois Community Coll. Board, Springfield.
This report presents aggregate annual noncredit course enrollment data for fiscal year 1999 and selected detailed information about individuals enrolling in noncredit courses, along with annual enrollments for credit-generating students in Illinois community colleges. Completions are reported only for collegiate-level programs. For students enrolled in credit coursework, more than half were female (56.1%), one-third were of minority ethnicity, and 2 out of every 5 students were 31 years of age or older. Available information on students enrolled in noncredit courses show nearly identical gender representation (56.4% female), less minority participation (9 with one-quarter minority noncredit enrollments), and the participation by a more mature population in noncredit courses being two-thirds of the students 31 years of age or above. In the past year, overall community college enrollments increased and completions decreased. Despite a decline in the number of credit-generating students, the accelerating number of students served through noncredit courses affirms that the Illinois community college system continues to adapt to the evolving educational needs of the communities the colleges serve. Highlights of the fiscal year 1999 Annual Report are reported. Appended in this report are Credit Enrollment Data Tables, Noncredit Course Enrollment Data Tables, and Completion Data Tables. (VWC)
