American Association of Community Colleges, Washington, DC.; Association of Community College Trustees, Washington, DC.
The New Expeditions initiative was launched in 1998 as a joint project of the American Association for Community Colleges and the Association of Community College Trustees, with support from the Kellogg Foundation. The goal of the initiative was to consider important issues and offer a vision for the future of community colleges. This report presents a set of recommendations for community college leaders based on ideas and suggestions gathered by the New Expeditions initiative. The report is organized into four major sections: (1) Community Connections; (2) Learner Connections; (3) College Connections; and (4) The Challenge. Recommendations are presented in fifteen categories: civic role, employers and the economy, P-16 connections, learner-centered colleges, access and equity, inclusiveness, curriculum, support services, credentialing, lifelong learning, human resources, technology, accreditation, governance, and finance. A list of contributors is appended. Available with the book is the executive summary and the CD-ROM version of the report. (Contains 131 references.) (RDG)
