Practical Steps to the Research Process for High School. Information Literacy Series.
Stanley, Deborah B.
This guide to the Research Process is a four-day diary of scripted research lessons. It is based on a generic concept of research and addresses the ever-increasing need for methods to manage information in a practical way, explaining how to teach research. The lessons and strategies are all based on authentic teaching experiences, and the underlying assumption is collaboration. There are four general sections to this guide: Section 1: "Planning and Preparation"; Section 2: "The Research Process"; Section 3: "Application and Accountability"; and Section 4: "Enrichment and Extension." Only Section 2 is the actual Research Process, containing the scripted student lessons that are adapted to fit into three days of instruction at the high school level. Students begin their own hands-on research on the fourth day--Chapter 10 in Section 3--starting with quick directions for efficient access of print and electronic sources and equipment. Sidebar icons appearing throughout the book represent some of the major trends in educational reform. (Includes an index, figures, and references.) (AEF)
