The goal of this book is to provide leads to the resources on the World Wide Web that connect with everyday events, celebrations, and holidays and that provide concepts and ideas that might help students to construct new knowledge. Sites selected include lesson plans, interactive activities, electronic visits to museums and trips around the United States, just-for-kids sites, and sites for teachers and librarians on days, weeks, and months relating to national and international observances. The book contains a chapter for each month with sections for days, weeks, and months observed. Each observance listing includes information about the observance, and each Web site listing includes: the title of the site; author/sponsor who owns the site; applicable level suggested for the site's use (i.e., primary, intermediate, middle school, high school, professional, or all ages); approximate number of pages when the home page of the site is printed; URL (Uniform Resource Locator); descriptive survey of the site; and suggestions for connecting activities. Two additional chapters promote literacy on the Web and links to sites on states, presidents, and authors. Includes an index of calendar dates, subjects, and World Wide Web sites. (MES)
