Arnone, Marilyn P.; Small, Ruth V.
Designed for elementary or middle school teachers and library media specialists, this book provides educators with practical, easy-to-use ways of applying motivation assessment techniques when selecting World Wide Web sites for inclusion in their lessons and offers concrete examples of how to use Web evaluation with young learners. WebMAC Junior--2000, a Web evaluation tool developed for use by elementary and lower middle school students to provide hands-on experience in evaluating the strengths and weakness of Web sites, is described and included. The book uses a workbook format and is organized into four major parts each containing several chapters: (1) "Motivation Mining for Information Literacy," including evaluation as a critical information skill and motivation mining and the Web; (2) "Mining Tools for Motivational Assessment," including using a motivational assessment tool to evaluate Web resources, administering and scoring the WebMAC Junior--2000, and interpreting results; (3) "Panning for Web Gold: Making Motivation Mining Work for You," including ideas from educators, other ideas for using the WebMAC instruments, and motivation mining into the future; and (4) "Sharing the Wealth," including a workshop for educators and teaching students to use WebMAC Junior--2000. Appendices include a content validity checklist, lesson plans, WebMAC Middle, WebMAC Junior Long Form, and the Web Site Investigator questionnaire. Includes an index. (MES)
