Arkansas State Dept. of Education, Little Rock. Special Education Section.
This final report describes accomplishments and activities of a four-year federally funded project in Arkansas to provide technical services to families and service providers of children with deaf-blindness. Project activities have included inservice and pre-service training for educators and other service providers, training for families, onsite consultation to educational and treatment facilities, home visits, information dissemination, and systems change through collaboration with other agencies and organizations. In-service and pre-service training focused on the following areas: early identification, early intervention, transition, best educational practices (including inclusion), incidence and characteristics, functional curriculum (including modifications and adaptations), parental rights and responsibilities, and communication. Project effectiveness was evaluated by: the number of children identified with deaf blindness, consumer satisfaction surveys completed by parents, number of professionals and others who have received information on deaf-blindness, and measured increases in the knowledge and skills of the professionals who received training. The bulk of the document consists of an appendix comprised of project materials including brochures, a resource library list, identification materials, surveys, training materials, meeting agendas, technical assistance forms, and newsletters.
