This book provides a practical and culturally sensitive guide to Chinese culture along with insights into how to communicate with and interact with Chinese people. This edition contains information on economic changes and the gradual demise of state owned companies in addition to information about basic Chinese values, cultural norms, and mindsets. The chapters in part 1 are: (1) "A Brief Background to the Chinese Way of Life"; (2) "Chinese Titles and Forms of Address"; (3) "Greetings, Conversations, and Farewells"; (4) "Chinese-Style Dining"; (5) "Appointments, Visiting, and Time Use"; (6) "Chinese Modesty and Humility"; (7) "Making Friends with the Chinese"; (8) "Education and Training among the Chinese"; (9) "Negotiating and Institutional Decision Making"; and (10) "The Concept of 'Face' in Chinese-American Interaction." A second section contains advice of Americans living and working in the People's Republic of China.
