This kit presents all components of the Universal Nonverbal Intelligence Test (UNIT), a newly developed instrument designed to measure the general intelligence and cognitive abilities of children and adolescents (ages 5 through 17) who may be disadvantaged by traditional verbal and language-loaded measures such as children with speech, language, or hearing impairments; color-vision deficiencies; different cultural or language backgrounds; or those who are verbally uncommunicative. The UNIT provides administration and response formats that are entirely nonverbal and can be given in either abbreviated, standard, or extended battery formats. Included in this kit are demonstration items (performed by examiner), sample items (to allow examinee to demonstrate problem understanding), and checkpoint items (the scored items). The full test includes six subtests: (1) symbolic memory, (2) cube design, (3) spatial memory, (4) analogic reasoning, (5) object memory, and (6) mazes. The examiner's manual provides chapters on an overview of the UNIT, theoretical foundations and development, standardization and derivation of scores, administration and scoring procedures, technical properties, fairness, and interpretation of UNIT performance. Extensive tables provide statistical data. Also included are a laminated card summarizing administration guidelines, three dimensional objects, two stimulus books, two maze response booklets, and two score recording forms.
