Funding a Family Literacy Program.
National Center for Family Literacy, Louisville, KY.
Whatever the source of funding for family literacy or the form it takes, this guide provides an overview of the funding process and provides suggestions for solving the fund-raising mysteries. It notes that the good news is that there are a wide variety of sources and aid available to family literacy programs, but the bad news is that it is a sometimes difficult and time-consuming task. The guide describes the five steps in securing funding: (1) develop a mission statement; (2) identify the funding sources (public sources, foundations, and local sources); (3) present the case/ask for support (including ways to approach funders and putting together a funding proposal); (4) manage the funding well; and (5) ask again at the end of the grant cycle.
