High School Competency Test. State, District, and School Report of Statewide Assessment Results. October 1998 Administration, Grade 11.
Florida State Dept. of Education, Tallahassee. Assessment, Testing, and Evaluation Section.
This document reports the levels of skill achievement by Florida students as measured by the High School Competency Test (HSCT) and explains the purpose, reporting, and use of HSCT test results. This test measures the ability of students to apply basic skills in communication and mathematics successfully in everyday life situations. Students in the 11th grade were tested on the HSCT in October 1998. Results of this assessment for the state, districts, and schools are included in this report. Results for students beyond grade 11, including adult students, are not included, but are available through the school districts. In October 1998, the test was taken by 108,694 11th grade, standard curriculum students who took the communications section and 109,315 11th graders who took the mathematics section. In 1998, there was a 3% increase in the rate of students passing the communications test and a 2% increase in the passing rate for the mathematics test above the 1997 passing rates. Two appendixes contain tables of state and district results and a district report of school skill achievement. A "Guide to the High School Competency Test (HSCT) Statewide Assessment Results" is included as an enclosure. (SLD)
