Family and Individual Health. Using Process Skills and Content Modules That Feature Critical Thinking and Practical Problem-Solving Activities. [Instructor Guide].
Brown, Jeanette; Rainey, Regina; Wolff, Jane
This curriculum guide was developed to help instructors of 1-semester high school classes on family health help students develop the process skills needed for critical thinking and problem solving. The format used in the guide presents students with practical problems to be explored so that potential solutions can be identified. The search for these solutions helps students build the skills needed to research questions to find the facts needed to make informed decisions and to evaluate several possible solutions and consequences. The guide begins with one module that contains four units devoted to developing the process skills needed for critical thinking and problem solving. A matrix tying the process competencies to content modules and objectives is included. The following 10 content modules follow the process module: (1) assuming leadership roles; (2) promoting individual wellness; (3) exploring functions of systems; (4) enhancing human growth; (5) promoting health; (6) promoting nutritional health; (7) maintaining a safe environment; (8) accessing health-related information; (9) influencing change; and (10) researching key careers. Within the modules are teacher background information, learning activities, and assessment activities. (KC)
