This study highlights the percentage of all new 1998 University of Wisconsin (UW) freshmen who were Wisconsin residents (82 percent); the percentage who were women (56 percent); the percentage of students of color (8 percent); the percentage who were "conventional" admits (95 percent); the percentage who scored above the national American College Testing (ACT) composite score of 21 (63 percent); and the percentage who were in the top quartile of their high school classes (47 percent). Fourteen tables present current and trend data by institution and systemwide for new freshman headcount, resident status, gender, race/ethnicity, age group, admission category, ACT composite score, and high school rank. Two appended tables offer systemwide 1972-1998 data on new freshmen headcount enrollment by institution and new freshmen average high school percentile rank by institution. (CH)
