This book, designed to be used with a training workshop that helps veteran teachers be effective mentors to beginning teachers, provides instructions on how to facilitate a successful workshop. The book offers six chapters that include strategies and materials to help readers learn how to plan and promote a workshop; facilitate a successful workshop; select, match, and support mentor teachers; and assess the mentor teacher program. Chapter 1, "Introduction," provides an overview. Chapter 2, "Designing a High-Performance Mentoring Program," describes key variables that distinguish between formal and informal programs and offers descriptions of alternative methods for selecting, matching, and supporting the work of mentor teachers and assessing the impact of their programs. Chapter 3, "Planning a High-Performance Mentoring Workshop," helps program leaders effectively plan a workshop. Chapter 4, "Facilitating a High-Performance Workshop," discusses how to effectively facilitate the workshop or adapt materials to meet local program needs. Chapter 5, "Mentor Teachers as Teacher Leaders," discusses the role of lead mentors and the various leadership roles and responsibilities they assume.
