The videos in this educational series for grades 4-7, help students understand the science behind weather phenomena through dramatic live-action footage, vivid animated graphics, detailed weather maps, and hands-on experiments. This episode (23 minutes), describes weather patterns and cycles around the globe. The various types of climates around the world are discussed, and the effects of factors such as the sun, wind, temperature, precipitation, and position of the Earth are examined. Seasons are explained in terms of the Earth's tilt and orbit. A science experiment for recreating convection currents is presented. The program includes a Teacher's Guide featuring additional information, vocabulary words, discussion questions, follow-up activities and lists of suggested books and Internet resources. (WRM)
