Hawaii Univ., Honolulu. Kapiolani Community Coll.
This report presents the University of Hawaii Kapiolani Community College's (KCC's) 1997-2002 Academic Development Plan. The report contains seven sections. Section 1 describes the college, enrollment numbers, and faculty and staff numbers. A total of 16,400 students are enrolled, and 330 faculty members and 126 staff members are employed. Section 2 outlines KCC's mission. Section 3 describes the college's planning process, which is part of a comprehensive approach that seeks to integrate academic program planning and budgeting through a participatory process involving faculty, staff, and students. Section 4 discusses the planning context for KCC, stating that there will be significant shifts and improvements in how instruction in liberal arts, health science fields, and technical programs are delivered. The college monitors three areas of its external environment on a continuous basis: demographics, economics, and technology. These external changes in turn generate internal changes in the college. Performance indicator graphs are also provided. Section 5 lists the college's four goals: (1) provide access, quality, and service; (2) champion diversity; (3) acquire and manage resources innovatively; and (4) contribute to the efforts of functioning as a system. Section 6 puts forth KCC's priorities and its intention to address them, organized by goal, program, academic support unit, and emphasis. Section 7 provides a description of the estimated resources required to implement this plan. (VWC)
