The National Research and Evaluation Strategy for Vocational Education and Training in Australia 1997-2000.

Australia's new national vocational education and training (VET) research and evaluation (R&E) strategy is underpinned by the goal of improving the VET systems and must accommodate the needs of all the different stakeholders in the VET sector. It focuses on research applied in nature, consolidating and advancing knowledge, and on evaluation work directed at the judgment of merit. The following key priority areas have been identified for the national R&E strategy: economic and social implications of VET; employment and the workforce; pathways from school to work; outcomes of the VET sector; the quality of provision of VET; and future issues affecting the VET sector. To make the national R&E program more useful, each project or activity funded through the strategy is designed to have a utilization plan that would be developed as part of the project brief. The range of dissemination methods available to the strategy is as follows: reports; journal articles in refereed or nonrefereed journals and books; articles; workshops, conferences, roadshows, and briefings; databases; networks of stakeholder or interest groups; existing and new publications; better use of technology, including the World Wide Web; and establishment and maintenance of a VET sector hotline. The national strategy involves the following: a series of priority studies; a program of leading edge or visionary research; consolidation and short-term studies; awards, scholarships, fellowships, and networks of VET researchers; and an annual work plan.
