More Reading Connections: Bringing Parents, Teachers, and Librarians Together.
Knowles, Elizabeth; Smith, Martha
This book provides information to help teachers, librarians, and parents establish a book club for the Prekindergarten through eighth-grade school community. The first chapter discusses book club planning, publicity, preparations, process, and acquisition of books. The following 13 chapters suggest books for a variety of subject areas, including connecting to the arts, humor, families in transition, social issues, folklore and mythology, sports fiction, modern magazines for children, picture books, censored/banned books, links to the Internet, middle school reading, gender equity in literature, and book talks. Each chapter contains a general overview, guided reading questions, a key journal article, an annotated list of journal articles about the topic, an annotated bibliography of books about the topic, an annotated bibliography of suggested reading materials, a bibliography of resources for further reading, and a list of World Wide Web sites. A questionnaire for evaluating book club meetings, as well as a list of references for teachers and parents, are also included. (MES)
