Examples to Accompany "Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Books, 2nd Edition."
Association of Coll. and Research Libraries, Chicago, IL.
This book is intended to be used with "Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Books," 2nd edition (DCRB) as an illustrative aid to catalogers and others interested in or needing to interpret rare book cataloging. As such, it is to be used in conjunction with the rules it illustrates, both in DCRB and in "Anglo-American Cataloging Rules," 2nd edition (AACR2), and in the context of local institutional practice. The aim of this publication is to illustrate DCRB, with special emphasis on those rules that are unusually complex, those that differ from AACR2, and those that differ from "Bibliographic Description of Rare Books" (BDRB), the first edition of the rare book cataloging rules. The 49 examples are arranged chronologically by the date of publication of the item cataloged. This arrangement is supplemented by title, author, rule number, and topical indexes. Each example includes a reproduction of the title page of the item cataloged; some examples also include reproductions of other relevant parts of the item, such as the colophon or a text sample. MARC-coded catalog records are used. Below each catalog record are listed the principal DCRB rules used in its creation. A bibliography of rare books cataloging tools is included. (MES)
