Functional Assessment in Transition and Rehabilitation for Adolescents and Adults with Learning Disorders.
Bullis, Michael, Ed.; Davis, Cheryl D., Ed.
This manual is based on a 3-year, federally funded program, Project FASTER (Functional Assessment Services for Transition, Education, and Rehabilitation), that developed functional assessment procedures and provided assessment services to adolescents and adults with learning or behavioral disorders who were involved in school-based transition programs, postsecondary education settings, and vocational rehabilitation. Chapter 1, "Overview of Functional Assessment" (Michael Bullis), discusses the rationale for functional assessment procedures for rehabilitation and transition and presents a conceptual model of these procedures. Chapter 2, "Referral and Intake" (Kenneth Kosko and Patricia Kelley), discusses the referral and intake process and presents the procedures and forms that have been developed and used for this process. Chapter 3, "Clinical Assessment" (Arlene Isaacson and Robert Ayres), discusses use of psychometric measures in functional assessments, use of referral and background information in assessments, and assessment activities. Chapter 4, "Environmental Assessment" (Miriam Waintrup and Patricia Kelley), describes procedures and instruments used to asses the work and school environments in which the individual is or may be placed. The last two chapters, "Report Writing" (Robert Ayres and Kenneth Kosko) and "Case Studies" (Patricia Kelley), present guidelines for integrating and writing the final assessment report and case studies.
