Noteworthy Perspectives on Comprehensive School Reform.

This publication is intended to help schools develop and implement comprehensive reform initiatives. It provides an overview of comprehensive school reform and offers suggestions for selecting and implementing research-based instruction, which includes a step-by-step process for selecting and adopting research-based instructional methods that are appropriate for a school or district. The booklet demonstrates how to invigorate education by reinventing staff development. It advocates the use of standards to set clear student goals, such as defining what students should know and be able to do, and then assessing these accomplishments. Each chapter discusses a particular aspect of successful comprehensive reform and can serve as a resource for understanding the key ingredients needed to bring about comprehensive change. All eight chapters present the results of interviews with education leaders and are organized around eight comprehensive school reform program characteristics. The document discusses how visionary leadership can transform schools and gives tips for bringing the public back to public schools. It shows how to evaluate comprehensive school reform initiatives and highlights some innovative approaches to maximizing resources. The text concludes with strategies for aligning the components of comprehensive school reform with successful strategies.
