The Bully Free Classroom: Over 100 Tips and Strategies for Teachers K-8.
Beane, Allan L.
Bullying is a common experience among American elementary and middle school students. This book presents strategies and tips for teachers in grades kindergarten through 8 to help students learn to resolve conflicts appropriately and safely and help schools become "bully free" zones where students can learn with confidence and without fear. Following an introduction discussing the problem of bullying and listing the "top 10" facts about bullying, the book is organized into four sections. Section 1 presents activities for creating a positive classroom climate. Section 2 presents several activities and tips for helping current or potential victims of bullying, and section 3 identifies ways to help bullies turn their behavior around. Many of the activities include a variety of options or approaches to try. Each section of activities and tips contains numerous reproducible pages for student use. Activities are not designated for particular age groups and can be adapted as necessary to fit a particular classroom setting. Section 4 presents print, video, and other resources for adults and students. Also included in the book is a letter to parents and caregivers outlining the reasons for using the strategies. (KB)
