Saint Louis Community Coll., MO.
This report from St. Louis Community College (Missouri) provides an update of the college's activities and outcomes in accordance with the North Central Association's (NCA) standards for institutional effectiveness. It also outlines the college's assessment operations for the next five years, identifying specific activities to develop the systematic assessment of student learning and the process of feeding information back to faculty for improvement of courses, curriculums, and programs. This document describes the assessment process as having five components: (1) mission and goals; (2) outcomes; (3) means of assessment; (4) results of assessment; and (5) use of results. Institutional effectiveness is defined as the assessment of all units of the college--academic programs and departments, college services, and student development offices--and provides specific measures of assessment. Plans for the organization and supervision of assessment are also provided, including details on staffing, staff development, and resources. Appended are the 1996 Assessment Plan, reporting forms, the college's statement on general education, a timetable and flow chart for assessment, response to NCA concerns, job descriptions, the Learning Circle Model, committee assignments of programs and college services, assessment vocabulary, and frequently asked questions.
