This report presents tables, graphs, and maps detailing the status of Mississippi state institutions of higher education as of January 1999. A "Profile" section offers summary tables which cover: funding history; Mississippi compared with other Southern states on average appropriation per full-time equivalent student and average full-time faculty salaries; faculty salary comparison at regional and urban institutions; faculty salary comparison at comprehensive institutions; percentage of total operating budget funded by either state appropriations or self-generated sources; yearly tuition and required fees (1998-99); resident undergraduate tuition and required fees; and nonresident undergraduate tuition and required fees. The second section provides tables concerned with enrollment, graduation rates, and degrees. Tables present such data as total headcount enrollment by level, race, county, race and gender, residence, and first-time transfer students from public community colleges; undergraduate headcount enrollment for students age 25 and over; total degrees conferred by race; and graduation rates for entering freshmen. The third section presents appropriations figures for fiscal year 1998 and is followed by a section on the budget request for fiscal year 2000. The final section presents tables on student financial aid including trends in aid and specific awards. (DB)
