Building Better Career Futures: Portfolio Builder.
Bell, Donnalee; Hopkins, Sareena
This Portfolio Builder, designed for participants in the Building Better Career Futures (BBCF) program, helps participants explore, work towards, and realize their life and career goals. It is to be used as a tool to help students reflect on their own ideas about career development and to later market themselves in the world of work. This Portfolio Builder is divided into the four main components of the program: "Understanding Career Development,""Opportunities in the Labour Market,""Opportunities for Me," and "Taking Charge." Each component highlights various themes, each of which is organized into three parts: Introduction, BBCF Handouts, and Expansion Zone. The introductory part outlines the themes for each section and how these connect with career development. Ideas behind the activities and real life stories about career development are presented. The second part of each theme includes BBCF handouts of activities useful in group or individual career exploration. The final section, The Expansion Zone, picks up where the handouts to the exercises leave off. The Expansion Zone provides reflective questions elaborating on the activities as well as additional exercises to help with building a portfolio. An appendix outlines parts of a functional resume, a bibliography of labor market authors, and a list of relevant career websites. (MKA)
