Neale Analysis of Reading Ability: Reader. Third Edition.
Neale, Marie D.
Following the style of the 1958 original, this third edition of the Neale Analysis of Reading Ability is both a standardized attainment test and a diagnostic test and thus can be used to assess reading progress objectively as well as to obtain structured diagnostic observations of an individual's reading behavior. This Reader contains narratives constructed to present six levels of increasingly difficult vocabulary and complex grammar. Two sets of passages are provided to enable retesting with materials of similar complexity and difficulty. Also included are two sets of parallel passages (Diagnostic Tutor Forms A and B) at similar levels of difficulty to enable an examiner to study informally particular aspects of reading behavior without the constraints of formal testing. Six supplementary diagnostic tests conclude the text: discrimination of initial and final sounds; names and sounds of the alphabet; graded spelling; auditory discrimination and blending; word lists; and silent reading/writing.
