Social Justice in Education. Australian Education Review No. 40.
This comprehensive review of literature on social justice provides a thorough conceptual and theoretical overview of social justice and its origins. A review of policies and programs and their underlying rationale is discussed, educational funding policies are examined, a discussion of research (indicating the current educational experiences of students in Australia) is presented, and alternative strategies for greater equity in outcomes from education is outlined. The first four chapters integrate and describe what other writers have said about social justice. The last chapter ties the major themes in the book together to provide a reconceptualization of social justice and a consideration of some possible strategies for greater equity in outcomes from education. Chapter titles are: (1) "Conceptualising Social Justice"; (2) "Social Justice Policies and Education"; (3) "Social Justice and Education Experiences"; (4) "Social Justice and Educational Risk"; and (5) "Summary and Conclusions: Reconceptualising Social Justice."
