The data reported here were chosen for statewide reporting because they can be influenced by the school; are comparable across the state; are essential for student and school improvement; can help improve classroom instruction; and can be measured by statewide standards. Each county is represented. The information in the document includes results on the Maryland School Performance Assessment Program (MSPAP), wealth per pupil, per pupil expenditure, staffing per 1,000 pupils, average length of the school day, and length of the school year. Other information reported is the number and percentage of 1998 graduates who completed minimum course requirements needed to enter the University System of Maryland, the number of students enrolled in grades pre-K through 12, results on Maryland's functional tests, the percentage of students present in school for at least half the average school day during the school year, the percentage of students in grades 9-12 who withdrew from school before graduation, the number of students receiving special services, the number and percentage of 1998 high-school seniors who have indicated that they plan to continue their education, and the number of students identified as having outstanding abilities in areas of general intellectual capabilities.
