Assessment Standards for Missouri Public Schools.
Missouri State Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education, Jefferson City.
This document describes state and local elementary and secondary education standards developed for academic achievement and assessment of student progress in Missouri. In response to the Outstanding Schools Act of 1993, the Show-Me Standards were established to represent knowledge students should acquire and how they should be able to communicate and apply it. Curriculum frameworks have been developed to ensure that students gain the competencies designated in the Show-Me standards. The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) is the statewide program to assess proficiency in mathematics, science, communication arts, and social studies through multiple-choice, constructed-response, and performance-based measures. General assessment requirements at the local level include requirements for administering the MAP as well as the outlines for assessments developed by the school districts. The grade-level assessment requirements are outlined, and the state's requirements for special needs assessments are described. Appendixes include a discussion of what state law says about standards and assessment, the Show-Me standards, and the state's student assessment rule. A glossary of assessment terms is included.
