Fiscal Year 1998 Unit Cost Report for the Illinois Public Community Colleges.

Used to determine grant rates for state financial support and as an accountability report to citizens, this report presents data for fiscal year 1998 on course offerings, enrollments, and costs for Illinois public community colleges. The unit costs are shown for a student semester credit hour. Highlights for fiscal year 1998 include the following: (1) state average net instructional unit cost in the Illinois Community College System was $171.76, representing an increase of $8.36 from the 1997 state average; (2) state average unit cost measures calculated were $181.51 for full instructional unit cost and $200.83 for total unit cost; (3) for the cost categories that comprise instruction in the state's community college system, direct salary unit cost was $61.82, direct department unit cost was $10.73, direct equipment unit cost was $2.06, allocated indirect unit cost was $75.66, and operation and maintenance unit cost was $21.48; (4) state average unit cost for baccalaureate and general academic instructional categories was $174.66; remedial education cost $164.09; and (5) public service expenditures increased $24.5 million in 1998 to $117 million.
